Writing

I would not call myself a writer, because I’ve never made the main part of my living from writing. I can say that words, read or written or thought about, have always been vitally important to my creativity, alongside music and the visual arts. And the discipline of crafting words in a way that usefully communicates thought is one of the things that makes me feel most excited, energised and alive.

It’s true that I have earned money as a copywriter in the past. That when written words come up at work I do my best to make them speak and communicate as helpfully and correctly and clearly and humanely as they can. And that I’ve published in print and online magazines. But my main writing outlet right now is here, whenever I can find any time. Words arrange themselves into cohesive sentences easily in my imagination without my having to think about it too much, so the question is really whether or not I manage to sit down and get things down. Then, of course, there is a process of editing and worrying and wondering who I might have offended, before I let it go and move on to the next thought.

I hope that you will find something of interest in these posts, and that if you are here out of curiosity about who I am, they will succeed in getting across something of my character and the things that interest me.
